KCRG Announces Four-Game TV Schedule

Nov. 12, 2004

The UI Athletic Department and KCRG Television of Cedar Rapids announced today plans to provide live television coverage of four home games of the 2004-05 Iowa women’s basketball team. This marks the fifth season KCRG has agreed to televise the Hawkeye women.

Three of the four broadcasts will be in prime time, including Iowa’s game against intrastate rival Iowa State on Dec. 1 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Other prime time telecasts include Michigan (Jan. 27) and Illinois (Feb. 24). The Hawkeyes’ game vs. Northwestern (Jan. 16) will be televised on a Sunday afternoon.

“The tradition of Hawkeye Women’s Basketball continues on KCRG-TV 9. Our staff is excited to be a part of it, and we know from the past that the audience continues to grow every year,” said John Phalen, vice president and general manager of KCRG-TV.

The UI and KCRG-TV will continue producing the 30-minute “Lisa Bluder Show”, which is broadcast monthly from November to March.

KCRG-TV produced live television coverage of five Iowa women’s basketball games last season. The station plans to work with the UI Athletic Department in developing broadcast alliances with other television stations across the state. KCRG-TV has televised 14 games since it first started televising Iowa women’s basketball in 2000-01. The Hawkeyes boast a 10-4 record when playing on the network.

In addition to the four games being televised by KCRG, Iowa’s contest at Northwestern (Feb. 10) will be televised on FSN Chicago. Hawkeye fans who can’t make the trip to Indianapolis for the 2005 Big Ten Tournament, can catch all tournament games leading up to the championship on FSN Chicago. The conference championship will be televised on ESPN2.
