No. 17

Nov. 14, 2004

The Iowa Hawkeyes continued their slow climb up the national charts this week, coming in at No. 17 in both the Associated Press’ college football Top 25 and in ESPN/USA Today’s chart.

Iowa, winners of six in a row after last Saturday’s 29-27 victory at Minnesota in the annual battle for Floyd of Rosedale, entertain Wisconsin Saturday in historic Kinnick Stadium. That game will be televised live by ESPN beginning at 3:30 p.m. (Iowa time).

The Hawkeyes collected 626 points to move up two slots from last week’s ranking of No. 19 in AP’s elite list. Iowa was credited with 519 points in ESPN’s poll.

Iowa is one of three Big Ten team included in the elite lists. Michigan is ranked 7th in both lists and Wisconsin in 9th in both.

Southern Cal leads both lists. Auburn and Oklahoma are tied for second in the AP poll. Oklahoma has a two-point edge over Auburn in the ESPN/USA Today poll.

Iowa and Wisconsin will square off inside historic Kinnick Stadium at 3:30 p.m. (Iowa time) Saturday. The game is a sellout and will be the first where the winner walks away with the Heartland Trophy.
