Tippett to Appear at FanFest

Nov. 18, 2004

The University of Iowa’s annual FanFest event is always staged shortly after the annual signing day for college football teams. Today, however, the event got its first “verbal commitment” and it was a big one.

UI Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed today that former Hawkeye great Andre Tippett will be the featured guest speaker at the 2005 Iowa Football FanFest presented by the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center. FanFest ’05 is scheduled for Feb.11-13 in Iowa City.

Andre Tippett was a consensus all-American Hawkeye who went on to tremendous success in the NFL for the New England Patriots.

Tippett played for the Hawkeyes from 1979 to 1981 and was the first consensus all American under Hayden Fry, Iowa’s Hall of Fame head coach.. He was a member of the 1981 Rose Bowl team and a two-time first-team all-Big Ten selection. Tippett currently holds the Iowa records for tackles for lost yardage in a season and for a career.

After his career at the University of Iowa, Tippett played for the New England Patriots for 12 seasons where he was a five-time all-Pro selection. Tippett was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 1999.

FanFest is a three-day Iowa Football extravaganza that provides friends and fans of the Hawkeyes an opportunity to get up-close and personal with their favorite Hawkeyes and learn what makes the Iowa football program one of the nation’s best from the people directly involved.
