A Birck Here, A Brick There

A Birck Here, A Brick There

Dec. 15, 2004

You’ve heard the rumors and have been hoping they’re true. So, here are the facts…

Yes, fans and friends of the University of Iowa, the Iowa Hawkeyes and historic Kinnick Stadium can, in fact, purchase a brick from the south endzone structure that was demolished recently as the renovation of the UI’s home for its varsity football program hit full speed.

Each of the standard-sized bricks comes cleaned and with the words “Kinnick Stadium”, the dates “1929-2004” and a Tigerhawk all carefully emblazoned into the brick and painted a rich black. Of course, since they are the real thing, all of the bricks are “weathered” and some have nicks, some have chips, some have small amounts of mortar residue. All come with a numbered certificate of authenticity signed by UI Director of Athletics Bob Bowlsby.

The project is officially licensed by the University of Iowa and the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Proceeds from the sale of these timeless pieces of University of Iowa football history will support the renovation project.

Looking for the that perfect and unique stocking stuffer? How about a brick from historic Kinnick Stadium?

Bricks cost $40 each and can be charged to a personal credit card. Bricks can be picked up in person or can be shipped anywhere in the United States for an additional cost of $8 per brick.

“We’re excited about providing this unique opportunity for what we truly believe are some of the very best fans in college football. And, perhaps, the timing is perfect for that husband or wife searching for the perfect stocking stuffer for their favorite fan of the Hawkeyes,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.
