Going…going…going…gone.

Iowa Football FanFest for 2005 is sold out, UI Athletic Department officials announced Tuesday.

The third annual event that gives friends and fans of the University of Iowa’s nationally ranked football program the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the Hawkeyes was capped at 300 participants in order to ensure a high-quality experience for both the fan and the members of the team and coaching staff.

Like previous events, FanFest 2005 will provide fans of the Hawkeyes the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the men who make the Hawkeyes go. They’ll also enjoy a presentation from former Hawkeye all-American Andre Tippett.

This year’s event will be staged at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Downtown Iowa City the second weekend of February. FanFest 2005 will also include events or activities at the Iowa Football Complex and historic Kinnick Stadium.

The inaugural FanFest staged in February 2003 attracted 170 participants and also had the Sheraton as its home base. Last year’s event attracted 270 friends and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes and was staged at the Collins Plaza in Cedar Rapids.

“Obviously, we’re pleased interest in FanFest continues to grow. We know, too, that the interest is a direct reflection of the excitement generated by the team’s performance on the field. It promises to be another exciting and fun-filled two-plus days of Hawkeye football,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.

Klatt said a waiting list is being assembled in the event of cancellations. Fans should call the UI Sports Marketing Office at (319) 335-9431 to be placed on that list.
