The Iowa GymHawks fell to No. 16 Denver Saturday night, scoring a 191.8 to the Pioneers’ 195.1. The GymHawks led after two events, but faltered on beam and floor to hand Denver its first home win of the season.
On bars, the GymHawks scored a higher team total than Denver. Annie Rue finished second on the event with a 9.775, while Romina Mazzoni placed third (9.725). The GymHawks’ Liz Grajewski, Natalie Padilla and Katie Burke all tied for fifth place with a 9.675.
Junior Kortny Williamson tied for second on vault with a season-high 9.9. Williamson also had the top score for the GymHawks on beam, scoring a 9.65 to tie for fourth.
Amanda Rudolph was the top GymHawk on floor, scoring a 9.7 to finish seventh. Grajewski led the GymHawks in the all-around, finishing with a 38.75 to place third.
The GymHawks will compete next when they host Illinois-Chicago January 22. Competition will begin at 7 p.m. in the North Gym of the Field House.
