The sixth-ranked University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team won one event title at the individual finals of the West Point Open Saturday evening at Christl Arena. Iowa placed at least one individual in the top five in each of the six events and recorded one Iowa season-best score.
Hawkeye junior Michael Reavis was crowned champion on floor exercise with a score of 9.625. He also finished in second place on horizontal bar (9.6) and fourth on vault (9.35).
Iowa junior Michael McNamara finished in second behind Reavis on floor exercise with a score of 9.375. He also took seventh on parallel bars (7.6).
Freshman Curtis Kleffman also performed well for the Hawkeyes. He recorded a fourth place finish on pommel horse (9.3), placed fifth on parallel bars (8.35) and took ninth on vault (8.8).
Iowa senior Linas Gaveika was the Hawkeyes’ top performer on pommel horse, taking third place with an Iowa season best score of 9.5. He also recorded a fifth place finish on horizontal bar (8.9). Fellow senior Kenny Lin finished fourth on rings (9.6) and seventh on vault (9.1).
The Hawkeyes will travel to Las Vegas, NV to compete in the Winter Cup Challenge February 4-5.
