Hawks Heading To Pensacola

THIS WEEK — The Iowa Men’s Golf team will travel to Pensacola, FL for the Emerald Coast Collegiate March 7th. This event will be hosted by West Florida University and will be played at Pensacola Country Club. This two-day event will consist of 13 teams. They will play three rounds, 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the second. Some teams competing in the meet are Oklahoma City, McNeese State, Troy, Navy and Cinncinatti.

LAST MEET — The Iowa men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the River City Classic in New Orleans. Luke Miller and Brian deBuhr led the Hawkeyes individually and finished the tournament tied for 15th.

MILLER EARNS CONFERENCE HONORS — Luke Miller was named Big Ten golfer of the week on March 17th. At the River City Classic he tied for the team lead on both days of competition. It marked Miller’s fourth top-20 finish of the 2004-2005 season. He also leads the Hawkeyes with a 73.6 round average. This is Miller’s first career Big Ten Golfer of the Week selection. He is the first Hawkeye to earn weekly honors since 2000.

HEAD COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 12th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson was a four-year letterman at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. He was named the PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the Iowa PGA Section in 1998 and 2004.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — ” We know it isn’t going to be easy because we haven’t had much outside practice. In this stage of the season it is most important to retain your focus and not go for broke. I am confident we’ll play well.”
