Hawkeyes Complete Day Two at Senior Championships

IOWA CITY, IA — The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming teams finished day two of competition at the Iowa Senior Championships this evening at the UI Field House.

In the women’s 200 IM, Hawkeye junior Kelly Werner took first with a time of 2:08.75, while Katie Koenig finished in third (2:12.74). Koenig also took fifth in the 100 back competition (1:02.63). Iowa took the top eight slots in the 50 free with senior Jennifer Skolaski taking first with an Iowa season-best time of 23.69. Katie Martin swam a personal season-best time of 23.76 to take second, while Abby VanMaaren took third (23.96). The Hawkeye women also placed two in the top five in the 500 free. Martin was third (5:07.13), while Erica Noah was fourth (5:08.53). In the final event of the evening, the 400 medley relay team comprised of Werner, Emmy Haeger, Skolaski and Martin took first (3:56.58), while Koenig, Andrea Hemphill, VanMaaren and Karen Kelly, of Iowa B, came in second (4:02.66).

In the men’s 200 IM, Iowa freshman Cade Ashby took second with a time of 1:57.58. He also swam to a second-place finish in the 100 back (51.94) and a sixth-place finish in the 500 free (4:56.51). Junior Cameron Dye was second in the 50 free (21.59), while Seth Tweedy took third (21.72). Trevor Haley was the top finisher for the Hawkeyes in the 500 free, taking second with a time of 4:46.83. Tweedy notched a third-place finish (4:48.86).

Iowa will continue competition at Iowa Senior Championships on Sunday. Preliminary heats will begin at 9:30 a.m. while the finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.
