Iowa Heading To Arizona

GOODYEAR, AZ –

THIS WEEK — The Iowa men’s golf team will compete at the Pioneer Classic in Goodyear, AZ on, March 15th and 16th. The event is being hosted by Iowa State and Denver, and will be played at Palm Valley Golf Club. Day one will consist of 36 holes and day two will finish with 18. There will be seven golfers competing for Iowa, five will compete with the team and two individually. They will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start on March 15th.

THE COMPETITION — Some of the teams that Iowa will compete against are Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Indiana and Denver. Indiana senior Jeff Overton is currently ranked third in the nation. The last time Iowa faced Indiana and Overton, the Indiana senior was defeated by Iowa’s Todd Larson at the Radrick Farms Intercollegiate on September 12, 2004. Larson finished in sixth place, seven spots ahaed of Overton.

LAST MEET — The Hawkeyes finished in fifth place at the Emerald Coast Collegiate. Two Hawkeyes finished in the top ten. Brian deBuhr led the Hawkeyes individually finishing the tournament in fifth place shooting a score of -2. Todd Larson shot well also and finished in tenth with a score +1.

HEAD COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 12th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson was a four-year letterman at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. He was named the PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the Iowa PGA Section in 1998 and 2004.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “We’re looking forward to a week of intense golf against some solid comepetion and hopefully some good weather. It is going to be interesting to see how we compete against another Big Ten team in Indiana and against their top golf Jeff Overton. Hopefully Luke Miller will be fully recoverd, since he has had pink eye which caused him to withdraw from the first round of our last tournament. I’m hoping that we just get better each week.”
