Live, It's Bluder's Bunch

March 23, 2005

Mediacom, Iowa’s largest cable television company and a corporate partner of the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, announced late Wednesday that it had finalized plans to provide live television coverage of the Iowa women’s basketball team’s game against Arkansas State Thursday at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Coach Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes will square off against ASU at 7 p.m. The contest is a quarterfinal game in the 2005 Sportsview.tv WNIT.

Mediacom will broadcast the game statewide on its Mediacom Connections channel. Rob Brooks will call the action.

Approximately 2,000 tickets to the game have already been sold. Tickets cost just $9 for adults, $6 for youth. Groups of five or more pay only $5 per ticket. Tickets are available at the U.S. Cellular Center Box Office and the IMU Box Office. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com and at any local Ticketmaster outlet.

The event was moved out of Carver-Hawkeye Arena because that facility is being prepared for the 2005 Big Ten Conference Women’s Gymnastics Championships to be staged Saturday evening.

“We’re excited about creating a home-away-from-home environment for Lisa’s team in the US Cellular Center and for the opportunity Mediacom has provided in terms of sharing the madness that is college basketball this time of year with fans of the Hawkeyes unable to be there in person,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.

As has been the case all season, the Learfield Radio Network will also provide live coverage of the Hawkeyes’ third game of this post-season. Brent Balbinot and Karen Schulte will call the action. Fans can listen on KXIC AM Iowa City, WMT AM Cedar Rapids, WHO AM Des Moines and other participating affiliates on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
