Three Hawkeyes Advance to NCAA Individual Event Finals

WEST POINT, NY – Three individuals from the seventh-ranked Iowa men’s gymnastics team qualified for the individual event championships Friday evening at the Holleder Center in West Point, NY. Hawkeye senior Linas Gaveika will compete on pommel horse and horizontal bar, while junior Michael Reavis will compete on vault and Michael McNamara will compete on floor exercise.

In the all-around finals, Reavis took eighth place with a score of 53.9, while Gaveika was 11th with a score of 53.0.

Gaveika tied for sixth on horizontal bar (9.7) and tied for eighth on pommel horse (9.45) to earn a spot in the individual event finals on both events. Reavis recorded a seventh-place finish on vault (9.45) and moved on to the finals in the event. He tied for 11th on floor exercise with a score of 9.375, but failed to advance to the finals.

McNamara was the Hawkeyes’ top finisher on floor exercise, taking fourth with a score of 9.575. He earned a spot in the finals for the effort.

Senior Kenny Lin and freshman Tom Buese both competed for the Hawkeyes but failed to advance to the finals. Lin tied for 15th on rings with a score of 9.55 while Buese tied for 34th on horizontal bar (8.9).
