Today, the University of Iowa women’s track and field team competed in the first day of the 2005 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Last year, the Hawkeyes finished tenth in the meet with 42 points and Michigan won the team trophy with 128 points.

Through four events in the heptathlon, senior Tiff Pedersen has scored 2,918 points and freshman Tammilee Kerr has tallied 2,990. Kerr set three collegiate bests in the meet in the 100-meter hurdles, the 200 meter dash and the shot put.

The 10,000 meter run was supposed to be run today but was postponed due to inclement weather. The second day of the Big Ten Championships will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the final events of the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon.
