The University of Iowa women’s team finished competition today in the 2005 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. The Hawks finished in ninth place, an improvement of one place over their finish last year. The University of Illinois won the meet, claiming their fifth title in school history.

Defending high jump champion Peaches Roach finished with the silver medal in that event with a jump of 5-8.75. Roach earned her second medal in the 100 meter dash with a bronze performance (11.66). Fellow sophomore Tiffany Johnson also picked up the silver in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.88. Roach and Johnson have both qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet in their individual events.

Two Hawkeye athletes set new collegiate bests in individual races. Senior Aisha Hume ran a new best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.50. Freshman Racheal Marchand finished the 5,000 meter run in 18:08.54.

Iowa next competes in the NCAA Regional Meet in Norman, OK, on May 27-28.
