The Sporting News Honors Hawkeyes

The Sporting News has placed the 2005 University of Iowa football team 10th in its collegiate pre-season poll. The publication goes on to pick the Hawkeyes third in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Michigan.

Individually, senior linebacker Chad Greenway of Mt. Vernon, SD, was named to The Sporting News first pre-season all-America team. He was also named the second best outside linebacker in college football.

Senior linebacker Abdul Hodge, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, was named college football’s fourth best inside linebacker. Sophomore quarterback Drew Tate, a native of Baytown, TX, was named college football’s fourth best quarterback. And, placekicker Kyle Schlicher, from Ankeny, IA, was named the 14th best kicker in the college ranks.

Iowa opens the 2005 season at home against Ball State on Sept. 3rd. The Hawkeyes have finished eighth nationally in both major polls the last three seasons.
