AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – The Big Ten Women’s Basketball Foreign Tour Team completed a three-game sweep over the Netherlands National Team Thursday, routing the home squad, 88-52.
Iowa senior Crystal Smith netted nine points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3-PT FG), grabbed two rebounds and dished out three assists en route to victory. Penn State’s Adrienne Squire reached double-digit scoring figures for the second straight game with 10 and a team-high seven rebounds. Minnesota’s Liz Podominick led the team with 19 points, 15 of them coming in the second half.
The All-Stars shot 47 percent from the field on 22-of-45 shooting. The team managed its easy win despite hitting just three triples, none in the second half.
Smith, who started two of the first three contests, is averaging 10.0 ppg, 2.3 apg and 1.3 rpg.
The team spent its first three days in Den Helder, a small town on the northern tip of Holland before arriving in Amsterdam Thursday. The All-Stars will stay two nights in the capital of Holland, visiting the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum on Friday, which is a non-game day.
On Saturday the squad will head to Brugge, Belgium and square off against the Belgium National Team in nearby Aaist, Belgium. The final game will be on Monday, July 25 vs. Luxembourg in Brussels.
