Hey, Where Did Those Courts Come From!

Aug. 11, 2005

Hey, Iowa City…there’s some tennis courts west of Finkbine Golf Course!

Yes. Progress continues on the West Campus Tennis and Recreation Center located off Prairie Meadows Lane west of the University of Iowa’s award-winning golf course and northwest of the UI’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 12 outdoor tennis courts – painted in U.S. Open-like blue and green – are nearing completion and should be ready for play when the 2005 fall semester of classes begins on the UI campus later this month. Work is also progressing on the structure that will house eight indoor courts and a variety of recreational space, team locker rooms and meeting rooms.

You can check out the progress and learn more about the West Campus Project in general by visiting westcampusproject.com, the official world wide web site for the project that will impact the greater Iowa City area’s recreational opportunities as well as the varsity tennis, soccer, and field hockey programs.

Iowa’s new Grant Field – the home of Iowa’s varsity field hockey program – is nearing completion. The artificial surface that will become the playing field is set to be installed during the next two weeks. The aim is to have that facility ready for competition when the Hawkeyes open their 2005 season by playing host for this year’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge the last weekend of August.
