Cleanin' Up

Aug. 16, 2005

Cleaner and brighter. That’s the simplest way to describe the progress inside historic Kinnick Stadium’s new south grandstand.

Work is progressing nicely on the facility, particularly in the spaces that are at “field level” – team locker rooms, coaches locker rooms, official locker rooms and others. Those – including that beautiful pink-colored space – are really taking shape.

On concourse level. Installation of the final equipment in restrooms and concessions stands is still on-going and will likely wrap up late this week or into the weekend. Attention will then turn to cleaning and stocking…the shelves and pantries of the concessions stands, in particular.

Outside, work continues at a feverish pace on the south plaza. In fact, progress is steady and significantly more of the plaza will be done by the first game of the season than first expected. Sometime in the next week workers will also likely begin installing the new gates that will provide the entry points at the southeast and southwest corners of the new structure.

Fans of the Hawkeyes are also reminded that Coach Kirk Ferentz’s nationally ranked 2005 squad will stage this year’s Kids and Kinnick Day presented by Alliant Energy Saturday at 11 a.m. Select gates to historic Kinnick Stadium will open at 10 a.m. Fans attending this free “sneak peek” at the Hawkeyes are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Johnson County Crisis Center.
