Game-Day Parking Tips

Aug. 18, 2005

Editor’s Note: The slightly differnt version of following letter was sent to 2005 University of Iowa football season ticket holders late last month and is posted here as a reminder for recipients of that mailing and as a resource for other fans of the Hawkeyes who will be attending one or more home games of the 2005 Iowa Hawkeyes.

Dear Friend of the Hawkeyes:

I hope this letter finds you enjoying another beautiful summer in the Heartland.

Today’s correspondence is intended to update you on matters related to parking on game days for the University of Iowa football team including some of the changes that will be implemented for the 2005 season as a direct result of the on-going renovation of historic Kinnick Stadium.

Our intention is to provide you this important information in ample time for you to review it thoroughly, secure the answers to your questions, and to plan your game-day travel and parking well in advance of the start of the 2005 season.

As you might guess, this is a very busy summer on the University of Iowa campus and, particularly, in the immediate vicinity of historic Kinnick Stadium. Progress on the renovation of Kinnick Stadium is moving ahead very nicely and we will be ready to play host to 70,000 friends and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sept. 3 when Coach Kirk Ferentz’s nationally ranked squad entertains Ball State.

However, as excited as we are for that day to be here, we thought it prudent to help you in your planning for your six visits to Iowa City this fall.

As you know, work on the stadium and the parking lot immediately west of the stadium will continue through the summer and will remain on-going through the fall months when college football takes center stage. We will use the Friday of each game week to shut down construction efforts and prepare the site for game-day.

In early August we will disseminate information about what will be done specifically around the stadium to provide safe and easy access through the construction areas. That information and any other significant developments that have a direct effect on your game-day experience will also be made available at hawkeyesports.com, the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Before detailing the changes to our parking program, I want to ask a favor of you. As you discuss your game-day plans with friends and other fans of the Hawkeyes, please take a moment to remind them that 99 percent of the parking immediately adjacent to Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena on game days is reserved for use by National I-Club members at the Silver Hawk level and above.

Fans without priority parking passes have numerous options available to them on game days including parking areas at the following locations:

? Hancher Auditorium (free shuttle to and from Kinnick Stadium)
? Finkbine Golf Course
? Roy G. Karro Building / UI Athletics Hall of Fame
? Finkbine Commuter Parking Lot (northeast of Finkbine Golf Course)
? Hawkeye Commuter Parking Lot (west of UI Athletics Hall of Fame; free shuttle to and from Kinnick Stadium)

Fans are also encouraged to “Take the Train to the Game” by parking in nearby Coralville and taking the 10-minute ride to and from Kinnick Stadium on the Hawkeye Express. Click HERE for information about the Hawkeye Express.

All of the information shared with you in this correspondence and any updates to the enclosed will be available on the world wide web at hawkeyesports.com in August. Additional information will be included with your season tickets when those are mailed to you in August.

As always, thank you for your support of the University of Iowa and our intercollegiate athletics program. We look forward to seeing you at historic Kinnick Stadium very soon.

Go Hawks!
