Today’s sellout attendance of 70,585 is an all-time attendance record for Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes have sold out their last 12 home contests, dating back to the 2003 season.

Iowa scored 56 points today, marking the most points the Hawkeyes have scored in a game since posting 56 vs. Buffalo (9/6/03). Iowa has averaged 44.8 ppg and a winning percentage of 38.6 in its last five season-opening victories.

Iowa recorded its first shutout since the Hawkeyes blanked Kent State (51-0) in the 2001 season opener. Today’s 56-point victory is Iowa’s largest margin of victory since a 62-point triumph vs. Indiana (62-0) on Oct. 25, 1997 in Kinnick Stadium.

The Hawkeyes have won their last five season openers against teams from the MAC. Iowa improves to 84-31-2 in season openers and 86-29-1 in home openers. Iowa extended its record to 15-1 against current members of the Mid-American Conference.

Iowa extended its winning streak to nine games dating back to last season. The nine-game winning streak ranks fourth in the nation. The Hawkeyes also extended their home winning streak to 19 games, dating back to 2002. The 19-game winning steak is a Kinnick Stadium record and currently ranks fourth nationally among Division I-A schools. Overall, Iowa’s longest home winning streak is 20 games dating from Nov. 19, 1918 to Oct. 20, 1923.

Starting for the first time in their career were LG Marshal Yanda and TE Scott Chandler on offense, and DE Brian Mattison, DE Kenny Iwebema, DT Alex Willcox, DT Matt Kroul and CB Adam Shada on defense.

Iowa quarterbacks combined for 19-20 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Tate completed 9-10 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, Jason Manson completed 9-9 passes for 92 yards and Cy Phillips completed 1-1 passes for nine yards.

Senior RB Marcus Schnoor scored his fourth career touchdown on Iowa’s opening drive. It was Schnoor’s first TD since his sophomore season in 2003, as he played in just one game a year ago.

Junior RB Sam Brownlee scored his first career touchdown on an 11-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Brownlee was Iowa’s leading rusher last season.

Sophomore RB Albert Young scored the third touchdown of his career on Iowa’s second drive. Young had TD runs last year vs. Kent State and Iowa State before being injured and missing the final 10 games of the season.

Senior CB Jovon Johnson scored his first career touchdown on a 90-yard punt return in the first quarter. The return came on a quick kick by BSU QB Joey Lynch from shotgun formation on fourth down. The return is the fourth longest punt return in school history and the third longest ever in Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa had five true freshmen play in today’s game: TE Tony Moeki, RB Shonn Greene, DL Alex Kanellis, DL Ryan Bain and OL Dace Richardson.

QB Drew Tate played just over one quarter, completing 9-10 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed touchdowns to WR Clinton Solomon (7 yards) and WR Herb Grigsby (33 yards).

Iowa sophomore Damian Sims, who was a running back last season, saw significant action at defensive back today. He collected three solo tackles.

Greene rushed 18 times for a game-high 116 yards and one touchdown (6 yards). The freshman becomes Iowa’s first running back to rush for over 100 yards in a single game since Jermelle Lewis collected 102 yards vs. Iowa State in the second game of last season (9/11/04).

Iowa totaled 302 yards to Ball State’s 22 in the first half. Additionally, Iowa tallied 16 first downs to Ball State’s one in the first stanza. The Hawkeyes were a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone in the first half and 6-for-6 in the game.

The Hawkeyes never trailed today, marking the seventh straight home game that Iowa did not trail. The last time the Hawkeyes trailed in a home game was when the Hawkeyes trailed 6-3 in their 2003 regular season finale vs. Minnesota (Nov. 15, 2003).

Iowa improves to 28-1 when leading at halftime and 31-0 when leading after three quarters the last four seasons.

Ten different Iowa players caught at least one pass today. True freshman Tony Moeaki led the team with three receptions for 28 yards. Nine different Hawkeyes recorded at least one rushing attempt.

Iowa punted two times today with both John Gallery and Andy Fenstermaker each punting once. Gallery netted a 45-yard punt, while Fenstermaker netted a 47-yarder. Both punts were in the fourth quarter.

Iowa’s defense held Ball State to 51 yards rushing and 93 yards passing, a total of 144 yards.

Iowa lost two fumbles today marking the first time in six games that the Hawkeyes lost at least one fumble dating back to last season. The last time Iowa lost a fumble was when the Hawkeyes lost one fumble at Penn State (10/23/04).

Iowa’s defense collected three sacks today (Bryan Mattison, Kenny Iwebema and Abdul Hodge).

DB Devan Moylan collected a team-high six tackles (4 solo) today. DE Bryan Mattison recorded five tackles (3 solo), including one sack.
