A Tumble by the Big Ten

Sept. 11, 2005

The University of Iowa football team will carry a national ranking into historic Kinnick Stadium Saturday when the Hawkeyes, smarting from 23-3 loss at intrastate rival Iowa State yesterday, entertain Northern Iowa at 2:30 p.m. However, it won’t be the single digit it had a week ago.

Iowa, the No. 8 team in the country in last week’s polls, fell to No. 21 in the weekly USA Today Top 25 and to No. 22 in Associated Press’s elite list.

The Hawkeyes, Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue are the only Big Ten Conference teams included in the lists. Southern Cal is the top ranked squad in both polls.

A limited number of tickets remain available for Iowa’s final non-conference game of the 2005 season. All four of the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten home games are sold out. Iowa opens league play Sept. 24 at Ohio State and opens its home league schedule Oct. 1 against Illinois in this year’s Homecoming game.
