Former Iowa captain and legendary Canadian Football League Coach, Ray Jauch, has been named Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s home game against Northern Iowa. Kickoff is set for 2:35 p.m. in Kinnick Stadium with an expected sellout crowd.

He will join the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip.

Jauch lettered three times (1957-59) for the Hawkeyes and was part of the Big Ten and Rose Bowl champions following the 1958 season. He played halfback and defensive back for Iowa. He led the Hawkeyes in rushing with 524 yards in 1958 and in interceptions in 1959.

He played in the East-West and Hula Bowl all-star games following his senior season.

Jauch went on to become one of the greatest coaches in the history of the Candianan Football League. He holds the league record for most regular season victories (127). He coached in Edmonton (1970-76), Winnipeg (1978-82) and Saskatchewan (1994-95) for a total of 14 years.
