Former Iowa running back/fullback Jon Lazar has been named Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s homecoming game against Illinois. Kickoff is set for 11:10 a.m. in Kinnick Stadium with an expected sellout crowd.
He will join the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip.
Lazar was a four-year letterman (1975-78) from Tama, IA., who also served as co-captain his senior year. He currently ranks 24th on Iowa’s all-time rushing charts with 1,225 yards. He scored seven career touchdowns.
He led the Hawkeyes in rushing his final three years with season totals of 392, 411 and 423 yards, respectively. He played his entire career under the late Iowa head coach, Bob Commings.
