Dean Named Honorary Captain

Oct. 13, 2005

Former Iowa wide receiver Anthony Dean has been named Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Indiana. Kickoff is set for 11:10 a.m. in Kinnick Stadium with an expected sellout crowd.

He will join the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip.

Dean was a four-year letterman (1991-94) from Pompano Beach, FL. He was Hayden Fry’s first recruit from the state of Florida. He was a receiver on teams that played in the 1991 Holiday and 1993 Alamo Bowls. He had 60 career receptions for 784 yards and two touchdowns.

Dean caught a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion pass, from quarterback Jim Hartlieb, in the final minutes to help Iowa beat Wisconsin (23-22) in Iowa City in 1992.

Dean worked for the Iowa Athletic Department as an assistant to the Athletic Director until accepting a job with the NCAA this past summer.
