Hinkel Named co-Big Ten POW

Nov. 21, 2005

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa senior wide receiver Ed Hinkel has been named co-Offensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten. He becomes the fourth Hawkeye to earn the award this season.

Hinkel, a native of Erie, PA., played his final game in Kinnick Stadium last Saturday against Minnesota and set a stadium record with four touchdown receptions. The four TD catches also lets him share the school mark previously set by Quinn Early (1987 vs. NW). Hinkel also established personal career highs with seven catches for 151 yards against the Gophers.

Hinkel, who broke his arm against Purdue earlier this season, returned to action against Wisconsin last week. The weekly Big Ten award is the second for Hinkel. He was named league Special Teams Player of the Week as a freshman against Northwestern in 2002.

Other Hawkeyes to be named league players of the week in 2005 are linebacker Chad Greenway (Northern Iowa), linebacker Abdul Hodge (Illinois) and defensive tackle Mitch King (Wisconsin).

The Hawkeyes have completed their regular season with a 7-4 record, tied for third in the Big Ten.
