The Bowl Game

More About Iowa Football

The 2006 Outback Bowl became more official than ever today for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The second practice of their visit in Tampa at nearby Jefferson High School was fast and furious and successful. And, as tradition dictates, the Hawkeyes squared off with the media afterward in the team’s annual “Bowl Game Media Day.”

Topics ranged from Clinton Solomon’s odyssey from high school to the University of Iowa to junior college and back to the Iowa Hawkeyes – “It’s been quite a trip and it’s gone fast. The bowl game will be my last as a Hawkeye and I want it to be one of my best,” said Solomon, who indicated he is on track to graduate and is interested in a career in real estate if an opportunity at the next level doesn’t come to fruition.

…to what Chad Greenway thought of Florida’s offense – “We’ve seen quite a few spread offenses in the Big Ten this year, so we’ll be ready,” said Iowa’s all-American linebacker.

…to what Jovon Johnson looks at when on the receiving end of a punt – “I check the gunners.”

…to what Kirk Ferentz thinks of his linebacking duo of Greenway and Abdul Hodge – “Just a great story,” said Iowa’s head coach, noting the fact that the Hawkeyes’ bookend linebackers have been great leaders since Day 1 and enjoy competing against each other and, more importantly, enjoy each other.

…to what Drew Tate was thinking after Iowa’s lost in the last-minute of play at Northwestern. “I was thinking we weren’t bowl eligible and we had two very difficult games to play,” said Iowa’s field general.
