University of Iowa freshman defensive tackle Mitch King has been named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America team.
King, a 6-3, 250-pound redshirt freshman from Burlington, IA., started Iowa’s final nine games at one of the defensive tackle spots. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 58 (35 solo). He also had 10.5 tackles for a total loss of 28 yards. He was credited with two quarterback sacks and three tackles forcing a fumble.
He was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in Iowa’s 20-10 win over Wisconsin.
King had already been named to rivals.com and footballnews.com freshman all-America teams.
