Editor’s Note: University of Iowa sophomore center Megan Skouby is currently touring Europe as a member of a team comprised of student-athletes from the Big Ten Conference. She’ll be sharing her experience with friends and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes here inside hawkeyesports.com, the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

God tag from Copenhagen!! First of all, I must give a shout-out to my game-timers! I wish I could be playing there with you and conversing with those of you in the stands, but this tour has been an amazing experience so far. We arrived in Denmark on Wednesday afternoon and the city is very lively and different in comparison to American cities. There are many old buildings with interesting architecture, but also some very modern looking places too. I have been keeping busy for the past three days doing some major sightseeing and also a little shopping. Europe is more expensive than the United States, but fortunately many of the shops are having sales this summer.

I have seen everything from the new modern opera house to three different castles. We witnessed part of the changing of the guard and we saw many places that the Queen utilizes when she travels. One of the best side tours we went on was a tour of Copenhagen’s harbor and canals. There were many different things to see. We saw three of the apartments that the great writer Hans Christian Andersen lived in and saw the Little Mermaid statue. If Copenhagen is known for anything, it is definitely that little statue on the waterfront.

The team is getting along wonderfully. Everyone is friendly and we are really bonding. We played our first game last night against the Copenhagen Select and ended up winning by 21. The play here is very physical, even more so than in the United States. A few of us on the team ended up on the floor last night. Overall it was a fun experience to be able to meet and play with a completely different style of players and officiating.

We leave Copenhagen and Denmark tomorrow and although I am sad that we have to leave this great city, I know that there are two other fun locations awaiting us. I hope that you have enjoyed reading about Copenhagen, Denmark, and I will be back with more soon!
