The University of Iowa Women’s Basketball program saw its attendance increase last season and once again finished among the nation’s best.

The Hawkeyes ranked 25th among all Division I teams with an average of 3,920 fans for 14 games. It marks the 15th time in the last 17 years that Iowa has been ranked in the top 25. Iowa ranked 26th two years ago with an average attendance of 3,855.

“This ranking is a credit to our great fan support,” said Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder. “Hawkeye fans are among the most loyal in the country. We appreciate all the support they have displayed through the years.”

As a conference, the Big Ten ranked second for the fifth-consecutive year. At least six league teams have ranked in the top 25 the last four seasons. The Big Ten averaged 4,697 spectators, while the Big 12 averaged 4,980 to lead the nation.

Iowa posted a 17-12 overall record last season, including a 13-3 mark (includes two exhibitions) in home games. The three losses came to teams ranked in the top-15 (No. 6 Rutgers, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 12 Minnesota). Iowa boasted a +11.4 margin of victory in games played in Carver-Hawkeye Arena last season.

Iowa will play 17 home games in 2006-07, one more than last year. The Hawkeyes’ complete schedule will be released in August.
