Kinnick: The Play at Hancher
The University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has teamed with Riverside Theatre in Iowa City to bring to the stage at the UI’s award-winning Hancher Auditorium Kinnick
.
Kinnick imagines a live, old-time radio broadcast honoring the UI’s lone Heisman Trophy award-winner, Nile Kinnick, shortly after his tragic death. It juxtaposes scenes recreated from Kinnick’s own diaries and letters with extravagant commentaries from sportscasters and gossip columnists of the time interspersed with singing jingles and advertisements as well as images and popular music from the period. The original script is by Riverside Theatre co-founder, Bruce Wheaton.
Fans of the nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes are reminded that Coach Kirk Ferentz’s squad will staged its fifth annual Kids Day Saturday, Aug. 19, at historic Kinnick Stadium. Selected gates will open shorly before 10 a.m. A post-practice autograph session is scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m.
