University of Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder today announced the hiring of Chuck Evans as Director of Basketball Operations. Evans fills the position vacated by Jaida Williams, who accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of South Florida in June.
Evans will work closely with the Hawkeye basketball staff, helping coordinate and carrying out day-to-day activities of the program. He will begin his duties with the Hawkeyes on August 28.
“This is a great opportunity for me to work with Coach Bluder and her outstanding staff,” said Evans. “I never dreamed this opportunity would present itself. I am thankful Coach Bluder has the confidence in me to take over this position.”
Evans has been the Iowa City Regina High School Head Football Coach since 2001. He guided the Regals to the Class 1A state championship last year. In addition to serving as head football coach, he served as the school’s Athletic Director since July 2005. Evans has resigned his post as athletics director, but will remain the head football coach through this season.
“We are extremely excited about having Chuck Evans join our staff,” said Bluder. “He was a proven winner at Regina and brings a wealth of administrative experience to our staff.”
Iowa opens its 2006-07 season November 1 when it hosts Northern State in an exhibition game.
