IOWA CITY – Iowa offensive lineman Mike Elgin has been named to the watch list for the 2006 Dave Rimington Trophy. The award is given each year to a player recognized as college football’s top center.
Elgin, a 6-4, 288-pound senior from Bankston, IA, has played center and guard on Iowa’s offensive line. He was a first-team academic all-American last year and has made the academic all-Big Ten team the last two years. He’s been named to numerous 2006 pre-season all-Big Ten teams.
Elgin started every game at right guard last year after starting 11 of 12 contests at center in 2004. He is one of only two Big Ten players on the current Rimington watch list.
