Ames, IA – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team leveled the 2006-07 Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series with a 1-0 overtime win against Iowa State at the ISU Soccer Complex Tuesday night. Iowa City native Kelsie Full netted her first career game-winning goal during extra time to secure two points for the Hawkeyes.
In the 95th minute, Full took a through-ball from sophomore Stephanie Hyink and blasted a shot across the goal into the left upper-90 for the win.
Junior Melisa Kaetterhenry nearly scored the game winner in the 94th minute, but a great save by Iowa State goalkeeper Ann Gleason kept the match alive.
Iowa’s offense came out attacking to start the match, recording four shots on target in the first 30 minutes. Hyink ripped a shot in the seventh minute that hit the crossbar while Kaetterhenry had three straight attempts on net between the 25th and 37th minute.
The Hawkeyes fought hard at the end of the match to produce a goal with chances by Kaetterhenry in the 86th minute and Hyink in the 90th minute, but Gleason once again came up with the saves.
Iowa’s defense produced its second shutout of the season while junior goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt recorded her first shutout in goal as a Hawkeye. Boldt pushed away eight shots for her second win of the season.
