Hawkeyes Head To Big Four Championships

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa men’s golf team will travel to Cedar Rapids to compete in the Big Four Championships next Monday (Oct. 16). The 36-hole competition will begin with 8 a.m. tee times.

THE COURSE — The tournament will be played at the Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. The 6,362-yard course is a par 70.

PREVIOUS COMPETITION — Along with the Hawkeyes, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake annually compete in the Big Four. Last year, Drake (579) out-shot Iowa (580) by one stroke to win the championship. Northern Iowa came in third and Iowa State fourth. Two players from Drake shared the individual championship with a score of 142. Four Hawkeyes finished in the top ten, including senior Jon Feldick (144, 4th) and sophomore Cole Peevler (149, 8th).

LAST TIME OUT — Iowa placed 16th at the Memphis Intercollegiate. The Hawkeyes shot a 293 in the second round, their best of the event. Iowa ended with a score of 905. Cole Peevler led the team. Along with a season-record low round of 69, he carded a 221 and placed 27th.

THIS WEEK’S LINEUP — The Hawkeye squad is in the process of qualifying. A final lineup will be available Thursday.

HEAD COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 14th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson was a four-year letterman at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. He was named the PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the Iowa PGA Section in 1998 and 2004. Anderson is assisted by Adam Kaufman.
