IOWA CITY — The nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday as one of four Big Ten Conference teams listed among the 25 college football teams in the first Bowl Championship Series rankings of the 2006 season.
The Hawkeyes – 5-2 overall and 2-2 in league play – checked in at No. 23 in the elite list. They will square off against the No. 3 team, unbeaten Michigan, Saturday in Michigan Stadium in a game scheduled to begin shortly after 2:30 p.m. Iowa time. ABC will provide live television coverage to a regional audience.
Ohio State – at No. 1 – and Wisconsin – and No. 21 – are the other two Big Ten teams included in the BCS’s first list of the 2006 season. USC is No. 2, Auburn No. 4 and West Virginia No. 5.
Florida, Louisville, Notre Dame, Texas and California round out the top 10.
