Tonight was Indiana State’s season opener. Tonight was the first time Iowa and Indiana State faced off since 1983. The Hawkeyes improve to 2-0 against the Sycamores.

Iowa, who attempted 44 free throws in its two games in Kansas City last weekend, attempted 43 tonight. The Hawkeyes converted 33-43 for a 76.7 percentage. Iowa was clutch again at the charity stripe when it counted, as it drained nine of its last 10 free throws the last 3:30.

Junior Stacy Schlapkohl netted career-high 24 points and also corralled five rebounds. Sophomore Wendy Ausdemore tallied a season-best 19 points and dished out a career-high five assists.

Junior Jenee Graham pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in the victory. Graham has posted double-digit rebounds in all three games this season. Graham collected 10 rebounds in each of Iowa’s first two games.

Iowa did a good job of handling Indiana State’s full-court pressure. The Hawkeyes recorded only nine miscues in the game.

With Iowa parading to the free throw, Indiana State had a number of players in foul trouble. In fact, three fouled out and two more were whistled for four fouls.

Sophomore Kristi Smith scored 11 points and collected four assists. Smith has tallied double figures in 2-3 games this season.

Sophomore Megan Skouby netted 11 of her 17 points from the foul line. Skouby was 11-13 tonight and improves to 23-25 from the free throw line this season.

With Iowa trailing 81-77 with just over three minutes remaining, Skouby scored six straight points to give the Hawkeyes an 83-81 advantage with 2:30 left. Iowa did not trail again in the contest.
