IOWA CITY – Coach Lisa Bluder and the nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will stage their annual “Buck Night” next Tuesday, Nov. 21, when Bluder’s Bunch entertains women’s college basketball powerhouse Louisiana Tech at 6:30 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
“Buck Night” means that all fans attending the game pay $1 for their game ticket. And, this year, “Buck Night” is being staged on a weekday which means all boys and girls high school aged and younger will be admitted free.
“We want to use `Buck Night’ as an opportunity for friends and fans to experience the very best in women’s college basketball in hopes that they’ll like it and come back once or twice or more during the rest of the season,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.
“It’s a sampling opportunity and when you provide someone an opportunity to sample something, you work hard to eliminate any hurdles. In this case, the hurdles are ticket price and start time,” said Klatt, who noted that Bluder’s Bunch is also off to terrific start competitively, having won all three of its games thus far in 2006-07.
The Hawkeyes entertain Quinnipac in the first round of the 2006 KCRG-TV9 Hawkeye Challenge tonight in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The consolation and championship games will be played tomorrow night.
“Buck Night 2006” is also the first of a series of “SuperFan” games begin staged by the UI this season. Everyone attending Tuesday’s game against Louisiana Tech will learn how they can win a 2007 Dodge automobile, souvenir basketballs autographed by Bluder or gift certificates to the Official Iowa Hawk Shop by attending any of the other five “SuperFan” events on the schedule.
