Hawkeyes to Dedicate Tonight's Game to Young Boy

Hawkeyes to Dedicate Tonight's Game to Young Boy

Nov. 30, 2006

Game Notes

Lisa Bluder and the Iowa women’s basketball team will be dedicating tonight’s game against Iowa State to a very special eight-year-old boy, Doug Ruley and his family.

Ruley, who is from Cedar Rapids, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000. He and Coach Bluder met when she was the chairperson of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Celebrity of the Year fundraising event and dinner two years ago; Ruley was honored as the Boy of the Year. Unfortunately, his health is declining and is not expected to live much longer.

Supporters can take positive action by making a donation to Children’s Hospital of Iowa and/or the Leukemia Society in Doug’s name. The people with Children’s Hospital of Iowa and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are very close to the hearts of the Ruley family, and it would mean a lot to Doug and his family if our Iowa athletic family could help honor him and help bring about advances in the treatment of cancer.

To make those donations, go online to www.givetoiowa.org/children or call the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at 319-339-0072.
