Hawkeye football fans who have been waiting to learn who Iowa will play in the 2006 Alamo Bowl, take note. The wait is over.
Kirk Ferentz’s 2006 Iowa Hawkeyes will square off against the defending national champion Texas Longhorns on Saturday, Dec. 30, in San Antonio, TX. Texas, who will be making its first Alamo Bowl appearance, finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and a second place finish in the Big XII South Division.
The following is a statement from Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz on facing the defending champion Texas Longhorns:
“We’re extremely excited to be going to San Antonio and playing in the 2006 Alamo Bowl. We had a tremendous experience six years ago and we’re honored to be returning. We’re also excited about the challenge of playing a team with such a rich football tradition as Texas. Texas had a great year as the defending national champions. Once again, it’s going to be a great challenge, but one we’re looking forward to.”
Hawkeye fans interested in following Iowa to its sixth straight post-season bowl game are reminded to purchase their game tickets through the UI Athletic Ticket Office at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa fans can do so in person or by telephone by calling 1-800-IA-HAWKS, or online at hawkeyesports.com.
