Season Ticket Prices Fall for 2007

Dec. 7, 2006

Fans of the University of Iowa’s football team will pay less for season tickets in 2007 than they did in 2006, but they will also have one fewer opportunity to visit historic Kinnick Stadium.

The cost of a season ticket to the six home games of the 2007 Iowa Hawkeyes will increase by $2 per game to $282 for the general public ($47 per game), $228 for UI faculty and staff ($38 per game), and $132 for current UI students ($22 per game). The UI last raised ticket prices prior to the 2005 season.

Iowa played seven home games in 2006 and the cost of season tickets were $325 for the general public ($45 per game except the Iowa State game which was $55), $262 for UI faculty and staff ($36 per game except the Iowa State game which was $45) and $140 for current UI students ($20 per game).

Single-game tickets, if available, will cost $50 each in 2007. Last year, single-game tickets cost $48 except for Iowa’s games against Iowa State and Ohio State which cost $60. These games were designated “premium” games.

All seven of Iowa’s 2006 home games were played before sellouts at historic Kinnick Stadium. The last 24 home games played by the Hawkeyes have reached sellout status.

“As always, an increase in ticket prices is the last option we consider when building the revenue side of our budget. These increases are directly related to the increases that are projected for expenses like room and board and tuition,” said UI Director of Athletics Gary Barta.

Barta said the cost of the more than 600 scholarships awarded by the UI to student-athletes annually is the single largest expense of the department. The UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will pay the UI more than $7.8 million for scholarships in the current fiscal year. Barta indicates that number will approach $8.5 million next year.

Barta also said the UI will eliminate all General Fund support of the athletics program next year. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics received $775,000 in General Fund support in the current year, $875,000 in 2005-06 and $1.9 million in 2004-05.
