Dec. 21, 2006
University of Iowa linebacker Mike Klinkenborg is still surprised if not shocked. He’s still shaking his head about being one of two Hawkeyes to be named recipients of the 2006 Roy J. Carver Most Valuable Player Award and a team captain for the 2006 UI football team.
“I still can’t believe it. There’s so many guys on the defensive side of the ball that are just as deserving,” said Iowa’s leading tackler. “It’s a tremendous honor because the team votes on it and I have so much respect for my teammates.”

Klickenborg looks as the 2006 Alamo Bowl as an opportunity to send the senior class out on a positive note. “We weren’t able to do that in our last regular season game. A win would also be a great stepping stone for the off-season and next year,” he said.
A win won’t come easy. Texas is, after all, the defending national champions and, as one would expect, they are deep – “We expect Colt McCoy to be their starting quarterback,” Klinkeborg said. – well-coached and very, very talented and athletic.
“From tackle to tackle on the offensive line (Texas) is one of the best we’ll facet season,” said Klickenborg. “They’re also very talented at the skill positions. They have great athletes at the skill positions.”
