Alexander Provisionally Qualifies In 400 Meters

Lincoln, NE – The Hawkeyes have had success in their first day of competition at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, NE. Ranked no. 1 in the 400 meters by trackwire.com, Kineke Alexander finished with the fastest time (53.71) in the preliminaries at the Husker Invite. Her time is good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. The 400 meter finals will be held on Saturday.

Two field-events took place Friday, the long jump and the weight throw. In the long jump, sophomore Renee White took fourth place with a season best jump of 18-11 ¾. April Holiness, competing for Nike, won the meet with a jump of 20-2 ½. Senior Becca Franklin took seventh place in the weight throw with a toss of 54-6 ¾, the winning throw was 66-5 ¾ by Melissa Meyerscough who was competing unattached.

Senior Tiffany Johnson qualified for the semi-finials in the 60 meter hurdles with the second fastest time (8.46) behind Iowa State’s Rebecca Williams (8.43). Megan Clark ran a season-best time of 7.78 in the 60 meters on her way to qualifying for the semi-finals.

The Hawkeyes continue competition Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, NE.
