Hawkeyes Add Eight Recruits

IOWA CITY – Head women’s soccer coach Ron Rainey announced that eight recruits will join the Hawkeyes next fall. The recruits include Jenna Aleo, Victoria Bachand, Kali Feiereisel, Amanda Heimann, Amanda Martin, Keli McLaughlin, Annie Shepard and Clare Williams.

Aleo is a defender/midfielder from Tinley Park, IL, and attends Andrew High School. Aleo is a two-time all-state selection and is a three-time all-conference and all-sectional selection. Aleo was also named the 2005 SICA West top defender of the year. She led her high school team to the Illinois Region 9 championship in 2005. Aleo is also a member of the Windy City Pride soccer club that was a State Cup finalist in 2006. She earned First Academic Honors awards in 2004-06.

Bachand is a midfielder/defender from Liberty Township, OH. She attends Lakota West High School and is also a member of the U-18 Cincinnati Classics Hammer FC club team. Bachand was named MVP of her high school team in 2005 and was also the team’s leading scorer. She led her team to a GMC title in 2004 and was also named GMC all-academic in 2004 and 2005.

Feiereisel, a goalkeeper from Libertyville, IL, is a two-time all-conference selection for Libertyville High School. She was also named team defensive MVP in 2005. Feiereisel is also on the Eclipse Select club team and was given the Golden Glove award at the 2006 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships. She helped the Eclipse Select win the 2006 U.S. Youth Soccer Championships along with the 2002-06 Illinois State Cup championships.

Heimann is a midfielder from Napverville, IL, and attends Neuqua Valley High School. Her high school team won a conference championship as a freshman. Heimann also plays for the Naperville Soccer Association club and has been team captain for seven years.

Martin, a forward/midfielder from Lewis Center, OH, is a two-time first team all-conference pick and a two-time all-district selection. She scored over 50 goals in her four-year career and started every match in high school. Martin is a four-time scholar athlete award winner. She has played on numerous club teams, most recently the Ambassador SC Red team. Martin helped Ambassador SC to a USYSA Snickers Ohio South State Cup finals appearance along with four other club tournament titles.

McLaughlin is a forward/defender from Alsip, IL, and was an all-state selection her junior year for Shepard High School. She is also a three time-time all-conference, all-sectional and all-area pick. She is a member of the KUFC club team and is an Illinois Olympic Development Program state-team member. In 2006, she helped the Illinois Olympic Development Program team to a third place finish at the national ODP tournament.

Shepard, a Kansas City, MO, native, attends Notre Dame de Sion High School. She was a first team all-district and Missouri second team all-state pick as a junior. She plays for the KC Metro Dynamo club team and the Missouri Olympic Development Program team.

Williams is a goalkeeper from Madison, WI, and attends Madison Memorial High School. She led her high school team to two-straight Big 8 championships along with a sectional championship in 2004 and a regional championship in 2005. Williams plays for FC Milwaukee and helped the club to three State Cup championships. FC Milwaukee was a USYSA regional semifinalist in 2005 and a Surf Cup semifinalist in 2006. She was also on the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program team from 2002-06. Williams also excels in the classroom and is a National Merit Scholar Commended Student. She has been accepted into the Honor’s Program at the University of Iowa.

“Our 2007 class will help our depth and we have some players that will make an impact immediately on the field,” Rainey said. “We have players that are excited to join with those on the current team who are committed to take Iowa soccer to another level. They represent a group that will work hard and take pride in making our program better on the field, in the classroom, and in the Hawkeye community.”
