Q-and-A with Lindsey Nyenhuis

What was your favorite purchase on the New York trip?
“To everyone’s surprise I made very few purchases on the New York trip and I think it’s because I was completely overwhelmed with everything going on throughout the day to even think about shopping! I did however make one purchase, at the mall in New Jersey before the Rutgers game that could quite possibly be the best purchase of my life. I have had my eye on a pair of Coach tennis shoes for a while now and when and my impulse-shopping friend, Nicole and I were in the Coach store, I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy them.”

If you could “hang out” with one celebrity for a day, who would it be?
“Although some may argue that this one is obvious, I’m going to have to say that it’s a toss-up between Katharine McPhee and the newly single Justin Timberlake. I met Kat twice this summer and she was an absolute sweetheart. I know that she and I would have a great time shopping at all the designer boutiques in L.A during the day and dancing at all the hot night clubs at night. However, because Justin is now single, I would love a day with him. Who knows, maybe sparks would fly and our `date’ will blossom into one of America’s hottest new romances!”

If you could compete on any game show (past or present), which would it be?
“American Idol. It isn’t really a `game show’ but it is a competition nonetheless. In fact, I’ve recently been brainstorming ways to make it on the show next year. I can’t sing, so I will be auditioning to make it on the reject part of the show in the beginning of the season. I’m leaning towards performing a horrific rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.; that would for sure get me in front of Simon, Paula and Randy and on national television.”

Do you collect anything?
“I can’t say I collect anything specific these days, but I have a great story about a collection I had when I was little. My family and I were late for a flight once and I had a hard time running to our gate because my bag was so heavy. So my mom, being the helpful lady she is, grabbed my bag and my hand and pulled me through the airport. When we got on the plane she asked me, `Honey, why is your bag so heavy?’ At the time I couldn’t say my R’s, and I answered, `Because mom, I have my bunny and my `wock’ collection!'”

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
“I would say that my guilty pleasure is youtube.com. I could sit for hours and watch some of the videos that come up on that website! It’s also nice because if I miss a performance by one of my favorite celebrities, you can almost count on it being on youtube.com the next day. So far my absolute favorite video is called `Boy almost falls off ride.’ Kristi Smith and I watched it one day before practice and I don’t think either of us have laughed so hard in our lives! You should definitely check it out.”

What are your hobbies?
“I enjoy learning how to play guitar and sitting in my living room and singing karaoke when no one else is home. I’ve also taken a liking to going to Petland and playing with the puppies. I always read US Weekly to catch up on Hollywood gossip, and when I get tired of watching myself dance in the mirror, I pop in my dance movies like Step Up or Usher’s The Truth Tour. But my favorite hobbies would have to be snuggling on the couch with my dog King Louie, and hanging out with my teammates!”

What was the best part about growing up in Grand Rapids?
“The best part about Grand Rapids is that it has everything! I love that I can walk out my backdoor 20 steps and walk my dog in woods with sand dunes and hiking trails and at the same time, I can hop in my car and drive ten minutes for a night in the city. In the summers, I’m no more than five minutes from a lake, and in the winters, I’m 15 minutes away from a ski resort where I can snowboard.”

Where would you go for your dream vacation and why?
“Thanks to my amazing parents, I’ve already been able to experience some over the top vacations. My parents have always made sure that every year we take a family vacation to places like the Bahamas or Hawaii. With my brother in law school and me being busy with basketball it is starting to get harder to have these `family vacations’. So, I guess my `dream vacation’ would have to be at least one more, crazy Nyenhuis family trip to somewhere with clear blue water, white sandy beaches, and personal cabana boys!”

What are some of your favorite impulse purchases?
“My cellphone, random stuffed animals and aviator sunglasses.”

What is your favorite midnight snack?
“Popsicles.”
