Tonight was the 51st meeting between Iowa and Indiana. Iowa now leads the all-time series 37-14. The Hawkeyes have won six of the last eight contests in the series.

Iowa falls to 12-11 in Big Ten Tournament contests and 2-2 against the Hoosiers in conference tournament games.

Iowa’s first points came at the 13:55 mark of the first half on a Jenee Graham lay-up. The Hawkeyes missed their first six field goal attempts. Indiana started the contest on a 9-0 run. The Hoosiers closed the half on 14-4 surge and went into intermission with a 13-point edge (34-21), its largest advantage of the first period. Tonight was the 15th game that Iowa trailed at the half (2-13).

Indiana went on an 18-2 run midway through the second half to build a 16-point lead (48-32) with 8:00 remaining in the game.

Nicole VanderPol started her fifth game of the season tonight. The sophomore pulled down a game and career-high nine rebounds, seven of which came in the first 12:30. VanderPol set her previous rebounding high (8) in Iowa’s regular season finale vs. Wisconsin. VanderPol also scored a team-high 12 points, marking the fourth time in the last six games she netted double figures.

Iowa, a team that ranks second in the country in 3-point field goal percentage, missed its first 11 three-point attempts tonight. The Hawkeyes finished the contest 4-19 (.211) from behind the arc.

Kristi Smith scored seven first-half points. Her seventh point was the 400th of the season. The native of Thornton, CO, became the 22nd Hawkeye to record 400 points or more in a single-season. The feat has been accomplished 39 times by the 22 student-athletes. Smith finished the contest with nine points.

Wendy Ausdemore, who ranked fifth in Big Ten scoring during league play, was held scoreless tonight (0-9 FG). The sophomore failed to score double figures for the ninth time this season. Ausdemore failed to sink at least one 3-pointer for the first time in 17 games. The native of Neola, IA, finished the season ranked 10th in Iowa sophomore single-season scoring (381).

Lindsey Nyenhuis made 2-6 (.333) from 3-point range tonight. The sophomore made two or more triples in six of the last eight games.

Indiana scored 34 first-half points, the same total it scored in the first period against Iowa at Bloomington on Jan. 11.

Iowa concluded its season with a 14-16 overall record, marking the first time it finished with a record under .500 under Coach Bluder. The last time the Hawkeyes finished with an under-.500 record was the 1999-00 season (9-18).

Iowa’s entire roster returns next season, including the addition of Kansas State transfer JoAnn Hamlin and freshmen Kelsey Cermak and Kachine Alexander. Additionally, Johanna Solverson will be applying for a sixth-year of eligibility.

Iowa falls to 4-5 in games played on March 1.
