The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will send four Hawkeyes to compete at NCAA regionals, hosted by Denver University, Saturday. Freshman Katie Turcotte, sophomore Kara Pinjuv, and junior Katie Burke will compete in the all-around. Sophomore Jenifer Simbhudas will compete on vault and floor, and is an alternate for the all-around.

Last Time At NCAA Regionals

Iowa sent three people to NCAA regional competition in 2006. Liz Grajewski finished 11th in the all-around with a 38.3, while Kortny Williamson tied for 16th place on vault, scoring 9.8. Danielle Legeai tied for 23rd on beam with a 9.775.

Junior Katie Burke

Burke scored career highs on every event this season, and holds Iowa’s top all-around score at 39.25. She also posted Iowa’s top bars (9.875), and beam (9.825) scores. Burke tied for eighth on floor at the Big Ten championships with a 9.8, and tied for 10th in the all-around with a 38.7. She also earned one Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor this season.

Sophomore Kara Pinjuv

Pinjuv earned season best scores of 9.85 on vault, 9.8 on bars, 9.8 on beam, 9.875 on floor, and 39.2 in the all-around. She tied for seventh on vault at the Big Ten championships with a 9.8, and placed third in the all-around, scoring 39.075.

Sophomore Jenifer Simbhudas

Simbhudas scored a career-best 9.9 on floor, three times, and holds Iowa’s top floor score this season with Katie Burke. She also holds Iowa’s top vault score with Katie Turcotte and Jenny Donar (9.9). Simbhudas tied for sixth on floor exercise at the Big Ten championships (9.825), and finished 12th in the all-around with a 38.525.

Freshman Katie Turcotte

Turcotte scored season-bests 9.9 on vault, 9.8 on beam, 9.775 on floor, and 39.075 in the all-around. She holds Iowa’s top vault score at 9.9 with Jen Simbhudas and Jenny Donar. Turcotte tied for fourth on vault at the Big Ten championships with a 9.85, and was ranked as high as first in the conference and 24th nationally on vault this season.
