IOWA CITY – Iowa men’s gymnastics coach Tom Dunn has announced the signing of Ben Ketelsen of Lancaster, OH. Ketelsen will join the Hawkeyes in August, 2007.

Ketelsen will compete in the Junior Olympic National Championships (May 10-13) in Oklahoma City.

Ketelsen won the 2007 Ohio State Championships on Vault (9.9) and on Horizontal Bar. He was also the USAG Region V (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio) Floor Exercise Champion in 2006 and 2007. In 2006, he won the Regional Vault Championship and was the Ohio State Floor Exercise and Pommel Horse Champion. In the 2006 Junior Olympic National Championships, he finished 14th in the All-Around and third on Vault.

Ketelsen’s parents, Garry and Michelle, are originally from Clinton, IA. Ben is coached by Mike Serra at the Hocking Valley Gymnastics Center in Lancaster and attends William V. Fisher Catholic High School.

“Ben perfectly compliments Michael Jiang, who we signed last fall,” said Dunn. “The combination of these two student-athletes will significantly increase our team’s ability to be successful in the Big Ten Conference and at the NCAA Championships.”
