STATE COLLEGE, PA – As play concluded Sunday at the Lady Northern Invitational, the Hawkeyes jumped two places in the standings to tie Illinois for ninth place. Kent State took the tournament crown with a total score of 878.
Junior Tyrette Metzendorf shot a four-under-par during the final round to tie for fourth place on the leaderboard. The Winter Haven, FL, native finished the third round with a stroke count of 68, which was best for any player on Sunday. Metzendorf’s 18-hole score of 68 is a new school record, besting four other former Hawkeyes who carded a 69 (Karla Murra, Liz Bennett, Lynn Tauke, Amy Riepma). Metzendorf’s low 54-hole score of 219 and Sunday’s four-under-par were both career-highs.
Junior Becky Quinby finished the tournament tied for 36th place (234). Seniors Jill Marcum (239) and Melanie Boyles (242) finished tied for 55th and 62nd place, respectively.
The Hawkeyes are back in action on October 6 when they return to Iowa City to host the Hawkeye Intercollegiate.
