Hawkeyes Finish Day One At Notre Dame Invite

South Bend, IN –

The University of Iowa men’s tennis team claimed seven singles wins in today’s competition at the Notre Dame Invitational. Teams competing along with the Hawkeyes include Ball State, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue and Western Michigan.

Freshman Austen Kauss won both of his matches, defeating Mike De Pietro (MICH) 6-3, 6-4 and Jorge Rodriguez (BSU) 7-5, 6-1. He was the only Hawkeye to win two matches on the day. Sophomores Walker Grimes, Patrick Dwyer and Tommy McGeorge each claimed one victory. Grimes defeated Chris Madden (MICH) 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) and Dwyer defeated Scott Bruckman (MICH) 6-2, 4-6, 1-0, (10-7). Additionally, Tommy McGeorge defeated Shaun Bussert (BSU) 6-4, 6-0 and junior Greg Holm defeated Danny Vidal (BSU) 6-4, 6-0.

Doubles results were not available at press time. The Hawkeyes will compete again Saturday and Sunday at the Notre Dame Invite.
