Hawkeyes Conclude Play At ITA Midwest Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team finished its final day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional in Minneapolis, MN. The Hawkeyes recorded records of 10-6 in singles matches and 4-4 in doubles matches at the Baseline Tennis Center over the course of the tournament.

In open singles competition, senior Bart van Monsjou fell to sixth-seeded Raoul Schwark of Minnesota on Sunday. It was a heartbreaker as 16th-seeded van Monsjou was defeated 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (4) in the round of 16. Additionally, eighth-seeded J.P. Ritchie and van Monsjou were defeated in doubles play by fourth-seeded Heiser/Rowe of Illinois. Ritchie/van Monsjou fell 8-2 in the quarterfinals.

Head Coach Steve Houghton was pleased with the outcome of the tournament. “We had a very good weekend at a very tough tournament. We were only two or three close losses away from having a great weekend. I am very pleased with the overall outcome.”

The Hawkeyes will compete at the Big Ten Singles beginning November 9.
